Privacy Policy
Lumina · Last updated: June 12, 2026
Lumina (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is a reading app for public-domain literature. We built Lumina to be private by default. This policy explains what data the app handles and why.
Information we collect
Lumina does not ask you to create an account, and does not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, location, photos, microphone, or any device advertising identifier.
The app stores the following on your device and syncs it under an anonymous identifier so your experience can carry across reinstalls and devices:
- Reading activity: which books you open, your position within a book, chapters completed, and AI-summary progress.
- App preferences: reader settings such as theme, font size, justification, and speed-reading words-per-minute.
- Your library: the list of books you have downloaded to your device.
This information is not linked to your real-world identity. We do not know who you are.
How your data is stored
Reading activity and preferences are stored locally on your device and synchronized to our backend provider, Supabase, under a randomly generated anonymous identifier. Supabase processes this data solely to provide the sync feature on our behalf.
Analytics
To understand how the app is used and to improve it, Lumina uses PostHog, a product-analytics service, as our processor. We collect anonymous usage information such as:
- Product interactions: which screens you view and actions you take in the app (for example opening a book, playing a summary, or starting a speed-read session).
- Basic device and app context: app version, device model, operating system, language, and time zone.
- A randomly generated analytics identifier used to group events from the same installation.
This information is tied only to the same anonymous identifier described above and is not linked to your real-world identity. We do not use advertising SDKs, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell or share your data with data brokers or advertisers.
Your IP address may be processed by PostHog to provide the service; if enabled, it can be used to derive an approximate (city/country-level) location. We do not collect precise location.
Book content
Books and audio summaries are public-domain works delivered from our content storage. Downloading a book transfers files to your device for offline reading; it does not transmit any personal information about you.
Children's privacy
Lumina is a general-audience reading app and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Data retention and deletion
Because data is tied only to an anonymous identifier, deleting the app removes your local data. To request deletion of any synced data associated with your device, contact us at the email below and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
